It is intended that the smoke detector in this application will function as per the requirements of a smoke alarm; specifically, it will be a localized alarm to the suite. The advantage of this type of installation is that the detector would be monitored by the fire alarm panel, which would provide notification to the supervisory personnel and be inspected as per CAN/ULC-S524, “Standard for Installation of Fire Alarm Systems.” It is not intended that smoke detectors used in lieu of smoke alarms will activate the fire alarm panel to send a signal to the fire department.
